The Silver Lake neighborhood in Los Angeles is home to an impressive array of modernist architecture. There are houses designed by Richard Neutra, John Lautner, Gregory Ain, Raphael Soriano and many others. Among them are numerous homes and apartment buildings designed by R.M. Schindler, the Austrian-born architect who worked under Frank Llyod Wright before starting his own practice in LA in the early 1920s.

On one small hill in Silver Lake, Schindler designed ten houses and apartment buildings within an area of just 0.16 square miles. This walking map connects them along a route through the neighborhood’s winding streets and public stairways, taking just over an hour to complete.
