Cleveland

 Client: Family History Book

 Software: QGIS, Adobe Illustrator

This map was one of three maps done for a family history photo book. This is the first map in the book, meant to show an overview of the homes on the two sides of the family, as well as the subsequent homes they moved to within the area.

The map was initially more colorful :) but the palette was scaled back to integrate more cohesively with the photos that accompany this section of the book. But in the end, I think the more restrained colors really show off the region’s central relationship to Lake Erie, and allow the red of the house numbers and title to pop. The family traces its roots to the Cleveland area in 1902, and continues to live in the area now several generations later. So I wanted to center this map in the 1940s/1950s and used fonts, shorelines, texture and a fun north arrow design to help evoke that time period.
